"THE FRIENDS OF ST. GEORGE'S HOSPITAL"
We are an independent organisation, but working in co-operation
with the Hospital Management.
Our aims are to offer support & comfort to patients, in the
hope that we can help make their stay in the Hospital a little more
pleasant. We have a team who visit the patients every day, who chat
to them and can often give them advice and carry out small errands.
Each patient is given a "Get Well Card" & a small
plant to those who have longer stays, plus a small toy to young
children. Patients are also given a letter explaining our aims which
they can return with any comments they wish to make about their
stay in the Hospital. In this way we can monitor the standards of
care and attention they receive which we can then follow up ourselves,
or discuss with the Hospital Management. We do not however, get
involved in any areas of the Medical treatment they receive.
We have provided a Book & Magazine Trolley, Clocks and Pictures
in all rooms, Toothbrush Glass holders in all bathrooms & hairdryers
and fans. We are constantly looking for new items to add to this
list, and ways of helping patients further.
We are all heartened by the appreciation expressed by patients
for the services we provide, and the co-operation we receive from
the Hospital Management.
To fund our operations we hold "Coffee Mornings" at the
Hospital on the first Friday of each month at 11.30am. This is open
to all whether members or not and new faces are always welcome.
It offers an opportunity to meet or make new friends, have a friendly
chat or learn more about us and the hospital, and even win a bottle
of wine in our raffle. We hold an Annual "St. George's Day
Bazaar" and have very recently hosted a "Table Sale"
in which other local Charities & Support Groups have participated.
We are always happy to enrol new members to "The Friends"
which is entirely free, and enables us to keep you in touch with
our activities. To join us or obtain more information, contact John
Burlinson on 06-946455
